Velella's Drift
An account of Velella's voyage from Seattle to New York via Panama, 2009-2011The Crew

The crew at Velella's christening
Meghan Cleary, Prescott Harvey, and Andrew Marsters, all alumni of the University of Puget Sound, are Velella’s crew from Seattle to San Francisco in September 2009. After San Francisco, Meghan and Prescott will sail her alone, with friends and family joining on various legs, the rest of the way to New York in 2010 and 2011.

Nessie “the sea monster” is the latest permanent mate on Velella. She is a rescue kitten from LA and a constant source of humor onboard.

Hello Meghan and Crew. Meghan, I’m your Uncle Frank’s barber. Occasionally, your Uncle Pat, as well. They brag about you, and your adventures continuously. So, given the info for this site, on more than one occasion, and since we’re incredibly snowed in, in the Chicagoland area, I had to look it up for myself. How fascinating: the lives of the crew of the Velella. Happy sailing.
P.S. Thanks for the Aguachile recipe with shrimp and lime juice. Sounds wonderful.
Hey Meghan and Prescott, we love you’re blog! You obviously put a lot of work and passion into your writing. We met you anchored out in La Cruz, we’re abourd the Ranger 33 Bamboleiro. Thanks for the recommendation on Paraiso Cove, we enjoyed the anchorage very much. So our friends who will sail from PV to Hawaii to Vancouver Island are Doug and Lyneita http://www.svkasala.blogspot.com, they’d love to bouce passage plans off you guys and keep in touch during the crossing if you’re interested. Check out their blog. We hope you have a great voyage! Fair Winds, Carl and Cristina currently in Barra de Navidad

don’t know why I hadn’t come across this FABULOUS photo of you both before. It’s absolutely stunning!!!! Hope you’re doing well and plan to have a delicious Thanksgiving. I’m still blogging (not exactly like yours, but still, and Sydney (my kid, and the tehnical guru in our household), has decided to make my blog entries into a podcast (can be found on Itunes).
